Check the video around the 3:25:00 mark to around 3:25:30. Long pass by Michigan City that was called complete. Check the location of the ball on the Michigan City receiver as he fell to the ground.....the ball is actually under him and on the ground.

That is gross incompetence. I would be curious to see how that crew was rated after that game. The official on the field (with the best view) initially started moving his arms in a manner to signal incomplete. The sideline official, who didn't even have close to a good view on the play as we was trailing, came in and ruled it a catch. No argument at all from the official on the field with the best view. Awful.

The receiver did not have control of the ball before he went OOB. I don't see this play as a catch.

Exactly! And the sideline judge, who was out of the picture and in no way had visibility to see behind the WR, came running in to call it a reception. Someone on the field with a bettter view has to come in and over rule him. Pathetic.

The official got coached up by the MC sideline.

It does happen that the person making the call is the ONLY ref to have a good view of the play. There are 5 officials on the field spread out over a 40 yard x 53 yard coverage area at the start of most plays. They observe 22 moving players. Sometimes there's omly one to guy to see that play. The guys in stripes aren't perfect. Look at college games. The games in the Power-5 Conferences ALL have 8 refs on a game and still miss things.
...and just so ya know, 99% of the guys in stripes hate it when something is missed. We love the game at least as much as the very best fans out there.
Great discussion - BTW. Thank you all!
