Is he stepping away from coaching all together or does he have another job lined up?

From what was posted on FB, it looks like he is stepping down to spend more time with the family.

Definitely caught me off guard. We'll see who Hanover is interested in bringing in to replace him. Not the highest paying of gigs in NWI for a Head Football Coach but could be attractive to someone looking to move "up."

What is the talent situation at HC? Are they going to be dropping off? Or will they just reload?

I would assume you'll see a little bit of a drop off. They have some very talented Seniors graduating but they also have some extremely talented underclassmen. I'm not too sure there are many "better" jobs in NWI outside of the DAC.

A great opportunity for a coach step in and keep things going in a positive direction. If I were the AD, I would be making a few calls to find an established winner that can take this program to the next level. They have the students, are part of the right conference, and have the facilities necessary to become an extremely hard out in the 4A playoff picture for years to come. Phil Mason????? What he has done with Griffith has been great, but at HC he could have all the pieces to the puzzle to turn it into something special.

Can’t see mason leaving Griffith especially when he promised to take them back to the program of years ago. He will stay another 3-5 years..

But why not dip into the CP staff and bring over Joe ocConnel? He had a good coaching time at river forest before he left for CP..

Take merrillville OC wissing? He has been proven to be one of the top OCs in the area if not the state? Go after a coach on a 5/6A staff that is ready to take on a HC job

Joe is happy where he is currently... not to say he will not be ready for a move in a few years.

C'mon, "great"? Like everyone who bashed Wheeler years ago, who did Griffith beat this season? All of those teams were .500 or (much) worse. Then Wheeler took them out behind the woodshed and Knox pounded them.

What Russ Radtke did with Griffith was great. Without the advantages of a private school or without Roydon Richards, Phil Mason is run-of-the-mill.

Hey Phil! Phil! HEY PHIL!! You're still having nightmares about that night aren't you?
