Re: Each Programs Best Team Since 2003
To my surprise, the 2009 Morton squad was predicted to beat the 2010 squad. The CP and Merrillville ones don't surprise me as much, both of those teams are really good and the 2021 Merrillville team lost to a really good Westfield team. The CP one is only strange to me given they have only played 9 games so far. A dominant 9 games, yes but still only 9.From the Stands wrote: ↑Fri Oct 20, 2023 4:01 amAlong with 2019 ValpoStop It wrote: ↑Fri Oct 20, 2023 2:56 amWinner 2013 59ers

The note on calpreps is pretty much spot on for trying to look at something like this...Stop It wrote: ↑Fri Oct 20, 2023 2:56 amWinner 2013 59ers

IMPORTANT NOTE: Projected scores involving teams from different years should be taken with a very large grain of salt. While it can be fun to see, for example, how your school this year would have done against your school's 2004 team...obviously, there just isn't a way to know that. Our system works on a scale where a team rated a 0 is the average team nationwide. So, a team rated a 21 is 3 TDs better than an average team, but there's absolutely no way to say whether a team rated a 21 in 2023 is better or worse than a team rated a 19 in 2005, mainly because (needless to say!) no teams from 2023 have played any teams from 2005. In other words, there's no way to determine if the entire scale (the country as a whole) is up a bit or down a bit in a particular season.

Lowell is, in my opinion, 2009-2010 (state runner up team). I see the argument for the 2008-09 team that lost to Tyler Eifert and the Saints but that 2009-10 group was TOUGH and beat a very good Dwenger team in the Semi-State.
Andrean's Finn's Team vs Desomer's Team argument is a great one for 59er fans to sit around and chat about. But as someone mentioned on here, that 2013-14 team was full of dudes around Desomer who were good as well (on both sides of the ball).
The Hobart state runner up team is the easy choice for me, I think. The team the year before I did think was better and did go through a tough path before losing that game against East Noble that they had control of early. But it's tough to say the team that made it is worse than the team that didn't, despite their path there.
Adding one for good measure (and because I went there lol), Morton 2010-2011 (Regional Champion Squad, lost to Dwenger in the Semi-State). Best of all the great Morton teams from 2000 - Present Day (Morton folks and people who know football know which teams were the great ones lol). Team was loaded with talent on both sides of the ball.
Bonus Team: Merrillville Pirates, 2012-2013 (42-39 Semi-State loss to Snider). I like this team more than other Merrillville teams for a few reasons, 1. This team had the best QB in Merrillville from 2005-today. 2. That was the most explosive offense in Merrillville that I can remember and I believe the numbers will back that up. They scored 50+ 4 times and were over 30 in every game but 30, most of those over 40... and 3. When the dome was on the line (in the largest class at the time), this team showed up and showed out. Other Merrillville teams, historically, have not. I know the defense was sketchy with this crew but they improved in the playoffs with the exception of the Snider game.

It's an unquestioned, "hell no!" now. Lol what a performance by Crown Point on Friday. Congrats to their staff, players, community, and Crown Point family. Not many thought they had a shot vs an Indy area 6A squad but they out played Westfield for the majority of the game and are headed to Lucas Oil! Awesome stuff!Jimbo23 wrote: ↑Fri Nov 17, 2023 2:07 pmFrom the Stands wrote: ↑Fri Nov 17, 2023 3:38 amJury still out?Jimbo23 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 19, 2023 12:48 pm
